NC DMA Seminars
The NC DMA conducts free seminars on various Medicaid related topics. Great training for management and staff. Every provider should ensure that there is a representative in attendance. NC COUNCIL OF COMMUNITY PROGRAMS
This council is responsible for the Annual "must attend" Pinehurst Conference, and provides frequent training opportunities. But, it is not an advocacy group for community based providers. Its board consists of Local Management Entity representatives. Providers can only be affiliate members, and with that, the most dominate affiliate members are the large statewide agencies. We are not sure what to make of this group. Fees are rather high and it is geared toward only providing information to its members. In addition, its Board consists of representatives of only the large statewide agencies. Difficult to see how this group can be an effective advocate for community based agencies. NC DEPARTMENT OF MEDICAL ASSISTANCE
The North Carolina Department of Medical Assistance (NC DMA) controls the federal Medicaid funds. It acts as the representative of the Federal government for all federal Medicaid funds. Before NC DHHS can enact changes to the Medicaid funded programs, it must get permission from NC DMA. Once approved, these changes are documented in the "Service Definitions". Each medicaid funded program is individually listed. The service definitions can be found at http://www.ncdhhs.gov/dma/mp/8A.pdf .
